Beach Trip 2021

Last week was fall break for Rachel and Jackson.  We were able to go to Panama City Beach for the week with Michael's parents and aunt.  We went down on Sunday - drove through a ton of rain off and on the whole way.  Rain was forecasted for the first few days, but we only had a shower/fog/gloom a little bit the first two mornings and then the rest of the time it was nice.  The water is usually gorgeous there but the first two days it was brown/reddish - we thought it might be because of the storm that went by the week before.  Turns out it was a red tide - something to do with the algae in the ocean.  It can cause skin irritations and respiratory issues and you never know how long it's going to last.  Luckily for us, it started to change over on Wednesday and the last two days, we were back to gorgeous, clear blue water.  Although there were no waves at all.  It was as still as it could be - like a clear blue lake.  So, that was different.

We saw fireworks off of our balcony several nights.

We saw a rainbow the first two mornings.

Shuckums was one of our favorite restaurants.  We went there twice this week.

This day and night was super windy... we were outside of a shopping area here, several blocks off the beach, and it was still crazy windy.

Early one morning with the moon still out.  It's really hard for us to sleep late at the beach.

Since the water was so shallow and clear and still, you could see more crabs, fish, etc.  Jackson and Michael caught this huge crab.  They kept it in the net until Michael thought he was grabbing the right side of it - but it wasn't and the crab bit him! It hurt so bad he said.  It even drew blood.  He threw that thing down so fast... it was hilarious (for those of us watching him!).

Jackson always finds a friend to play with.  This boy was also from Cherokee County there for the week.

This was a small sting ray that we could see - it came right up to the shore.

We all went to dinner and played putt-putt one night.  That was fun.

Rachel was the only one that got a hole in one!

Here are two more smaller crabs that Jackson and his friend caught.

Barbara buried Jackson in the sand and he stayed there for a while.

Riding go-carts on the last night.
