Shorter but Still Curly!

Well, today was the day I was dreading...Jackson's first haircut! I was so scared that this cute curls would be cut away...but it was just getting so long and hanging in his face...not so cute anymore. For example...

And this...

So, we get there this morning and sit him in the little car - which he liked. He was fine until she put the smock on him to keep the hair off. He did not like that!!!

But it took a second to get used to it and the fact that they put one on me too may have helped. Then he sat patiently and let her do her thing. He played with a few toys and moved his head around a little, but no more crying.

She only cut off about 1/2 inch to an inch all around therefore leaving 2 more curls on his hair!

This is Jackson with Ms. Shaundra. He did great! I asked if she thought once we cut off those other two curls all around if it would stay curly or that would be the end of it. She's not totally sure what will happen, but said he definitely has a strong curl pattern, so if it's not curly-curly, it will at least probably be wavy! So we'll see.

A few after shots - it's still curly - just a little shorter.

And the side...

And the back!
So, I am pleased. He did such a good job and he's still my curly-headed baby boy!

Posing Cousins

We tried our hardest to get some good pictures of the five kids...and boy is that difficult! Jackson never wants to sit still and have his picture taken, so that didn't help. Here are some of the good ones...

Christmas with the Family

We got to spend the most time with my brother and his family because we went everywhere together. This was really the first time that Rachel has been old enough and had time to play with her three cousins - Samuel, Anna Grace and Julia. And boy did she have fun! They played hide-and-seek so many times I couldn't count. She had the best time playing with all of them.

This was Rachel and AG hiding - Rachel thinks if she can't see you, that you can't see her... Ha!

Rachel and Uncle Jeremy...

Nana and the five grandkids...

The boys...

The girls...

Great Grandmother Perkins and the five great-grandkids...

Jackson on his new four-wheeler...

Taking some pictures in front of the pretty waterfall...

Christmas Time

We had a great Christmas this year. It was more like a Christmas week instead of Christmas day for us. But the good thing was that we got to see almost all of our family. We had Michael's side of the family over to our house on Christmas day and then we traveled around NC seeing my family for the next few days.

Here are Rachel and Jackson in their new Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve.

Christmas morning opening presents and seeing what Santa left.

Jackson loved Rachel's microphone about as much as she did!

Ready to shake her jingle bells!

He loves his new rocking horse!

Pretty princess!

Little Man

I wanted to share a few updates about our little man... He is currently 16 and a half months old and is about 28 pounds. He's very strong and strong-willed. He loves to climb on everything. Right after Thanksgiving he transitioned to the next class at school, so he no longer sleeps in a crib for his naps - they lay on mats. I was a little worried about this b/c I know that's a hard transition but he did great! Not once have they had to sit with him and rub his back for him to go to sleep. He is becoming a good listener (when he wants to) and can follow instructions now - at home and at school. Also in this new class they sit in little chairs at the table to eat, instead of in high chairs... His teachers have had nothing but good things to say about him so that makes me very happy!

When the kids went back to school in August, we dropped his middle of the day bottle. During Thanksgiving break, we dropped his morning bottle so he was down to only one. And just last week we dropped the night time bottle - so this family is done with bottles now. Crazy! He hasn't seemed to miss a beat.

He has been taking one nap a day at school since August as well, but on the weekends it was like he couldn't get enough sleep - he'd have to catch up. But during that week off at Thanksgiving, we stopped giving him 2 naps while he was at home and have only been doing the one nap a day since then. And oh is that so much easier as a family! Before, it was a perpetual state of nap around here on the weekends, because Jackson would nap in the morning, then he'd be up and Rachel would nap after lunch (yes, she still takes some kind of a nap - thank goodness!), and then she'd wake up and he'd go back down... So that was hard for us to do anything or go anywhere. But now they are both on the same schedule, even though her naps are much shorter, it's still nice.

He can say a few words, but not that much. Mostly everything is "da-dy" including daddy, doggie, and anything else he wants it to be. He can say ma-ma but it's mostly when he's upset. Bye-bye, uh-oh and bubble are also easy for him. He continues to point and grunt or whatnot to get what he wants... It'll happen though.

He's recently started throwing short temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way - he arches his back and throws his head back screaming. Thank goodness they don't usually last very long.

He's still the sweetest little baby boy though...and he's growing up so fast!!!

Sitting with Santa

Tonight we went back to see our Santa Claus - the one that lives about 20 minutes from our house... He's so nice and we can take as many pictures as we want for free. Nice. We had a plan to get there early this evening before the place got crowded so we wouldn't have to wait in a long line and give Rachel time to get nervous. It worked great - we were there early and walked right up. She had been telling us all week that she didn't want to sit on his lap but she did sit on the corner of his chair right beside him - which is much better than last year. She talked to him and even gave him a hug when we left. Jackson didn't care too much for him this time...He wasn't screaming but overall not too happy with him.

Warming up by the fire.

Rachel just loved this mailbox...

At home afterwards...I still can't get a good picture of Jackson when I try to... They were playing with our manger scene.

Pretty girl!
