Little Bit of Snow

The weather has been a little crazy here the past week or snow.  From warm to cold, snow flurries, no snow, snow up here, no snow just barely south of us, etc... Rachel was out of school all last week for winter break.  I was actually glad about that because I already had her days planned of where she would go and who would stay with her.  If not, I'm sure they would have cancelled school at least a couple of the days.  They went back to school on Monday and then have been out because of weather the rest of the week so far.

Tuesday morning it snowed some at our house but we had to go to Jackson's ENT appointment first thing.  Then we took him to school but Rachel had to come to work with me.  She was so excited to finally be able to come with me (that doesn't usually happen) and then was rather bored while she was here.  She did watch a movie in the back though...

They predicted that Wednesday we would get 2-4 or 3-5 inches of snow at our house.  All the schools cancelled, even Jackson's.  So I stayed home with them yesterday.  Thank goodness we did actually get some snow - areas just south of us didn't get any at all.

It started snowing around 2:00 or so and it continued for about 3-4 hours.  The kids went out and played a few times.  They wanted to sled more than they were able to but the roads just weren't very slick.  They did try, just didn't make it very far.

This is when it was starting to come down.

Throwing snowballs...

They went across the street to play with the kids there.

Michael measuring the snow for me - it was an inch and a half at this point.  He knows I have to take pictures of everything...

I finally went outside for the last little bit.  Glad we got a picture then!

All he wants to do is eat the snow...

The neighbor took this picture of them with the snowman... so cute!

The kids were really hoping we'd get more snow overnight or at least that the roads would ice over and they could go sledding.  Didn't happen.  The roads were almost clear this morning.  They went back out to play for a little while this morning - sledding a little bit in our yard.  Of course schools were still closed (Jackson's was only delayed thankfully)... We were able to have Rachel go over to a friend's house in the neighborhood for today so we could both go to work.  This picture below looks like they're having fun.

We'll see if she goes back to school tomorrow or not.  I hope so.  Snow days without snow aren't that much fun.  At least we got what we did though!

Math by Jackson

This isn't my normal kind of post, but just wanted to share this with the family.  Jackson brought this page home from school yesterday.

First of all, his handwriting has improved so much in the past month.  He's really taking his time and concentrating when writing now.  They have started working on addition in his class over the last week or so.  I asked him about this in the car on the way home.  He said he did it all by himself, the teachers didn't have to help him, and that he was the first one finished!

Then he asked me "Mommy, isn't that amazing?"

"Yes, Buddy, it is!"

Family Trip to Mountains

So this year, instead of exchanging gifts for the adults at Christmas, we decided to take a weekend trip to the mountains instead.  We went to the North Georgia mountains this past weekend with Michael's side of the family.  We had a nice, big cabin and lots of time to hang out and play.

We arrived Friday afternoon and it was a little crazy to begin with...that didn't stop Rachel and Chloe (and Jackson but he didn't want in the picture) from enjoying some hot chocolate.

We woke up Saturday morning to snow falling.  It snowed for a couple of hours but didn't really stick - except to make the deck icy...and we didn't have to go anywhere so it was fine. It did stay extremely cold outside for the rest of the day though.

Group shot of me with the kids.

Rachel and Jackson getting to hold Mathieu for the first time.  He's so big but so cute!  We all loved getting to hold him and know him better since we really haven't seen him that much since he's been born.

There was a hot tub on the deck that the kids couldn't wait to get in.  The deck was icy and the outside temp was maybe 40 degrees, but they enjoyed it for the short time we let them.

Jackson and Chloe loved playing with each other.  Here they are sharing some popcorn.

All bundled up and playing on the deck.

He's trying to hit the wind chimes...

We took the opportunity to get some family pictures while we were all together.

Playing outside on Sunday.  There was a horse barn and field in front of our cabin.  It made for a good place to run and climb.

Rachel and Aunt Net looking around.

This was the outside of the cabin.

Overall, it was a fun time.  The kids didn't want to go home.

Christmas 2014

It hasn't been long since I did the last post, but here are our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day pictures.  We went to the Christmas Eve service at our church on Wednesday afternoon.  It was different!

Jackson received a bag of clothes from someone at my office and in it was a dress coat... he's never had one before and calls it his "police shirt"... he's been wanting to wear it so Michael told him he could wear it for this service.  He was very excited to wear it and I thought he looked so handsome!!!

We've never really had outside Christmas decorations before, but we are trying to slowly add to it without breaking the bank.  Michael made these blue Christmas trees out of tomato plant stands this year.  They looked great outside in the front yard.

And of course they got new Christmas pajamas...both have an elf theme.

Oh the excitement of seeing what Santa left on Christmas morning... They look excited, don't they???

We went over to Grandmama and Granddaddy's house in the afternoon.

Rachel got a razor scooter and slowly got used to riding it...she wasn't too excited about it to begin with...

Jackson got this ride-on-wiggle-thing... we don't know what to call it, but he loves it.

Just hanging out...

Here is Jackson from this morning dressed in his new Batman pajamas... he was so excited for them - and it even has a cape!

And I finally remembered to take a few pictures of Harold, their elf, this season...not as many as I wish I had, but here are a few of his crazy hiding spots he had... The kids loved finding him each morning.  So long until next year, Harold!

We hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas time as well!  Enjoy the New Year!
